Die Schnade von Brilon

Schnade is a tradition spanning more than 620 years whereby the adult men of the village hike around the surrounding border of their territory. The director questions women’s inability to participate in this event, to regrettably find out that the majority of villagers are happy to keep this as it is.

Originating from a martial border preservation ritual aimed against landmark stone shifting practice of neighbouring villagers. Oftentimes that resulted in fights, however today the ritual transformed into drinking and hiking hunter festival, reserved exclusively for male population.

During the production I acted as DOP and main camera operator in crossroad conditions, collecting a unique ethnographic experience.
